Maybe If You Understood

This is my documentary series titled “maybe if you understood” which is based upon my sister, Isla aged 15 who has high-functioning autism and self-harms. The aim for this project was to challenge people’s pre-conceptions over autism as not many people are aware of the autistic spectrum. Isla has high-functioning autism which often means people are not aware, upon meeting her, that she has autism as she can often force herself to come across composed in everyday situations even though she may be really struggling deep down inside. Over the course of this project I spent each day with her, photographing her daily routines and her quirks.
